| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on February 6, 1911, | 3 |
| in Tampico, the son of Nellie and John Reagan; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan and his family in 1915 moved to | 5 |
| Galesburg,
and he
began his formal education at Silas Willard | 6 |
| School; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan and his family then moved to | 8 |
| Monmouth and
resided in
that fair community during his | 9 |
| formative years from 1917 to 1919 and attended Monmouth Central | 10 |
| School; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, When Ronald Reagan was 9 years of age, the family | 12 |
| settled in Dixon,
where at Dixon High School he played football | 13 |
| and basketball, ran track, served
as president of the student | 14 |
| body, and first performed as an actor; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan graduated from Eureka College in | 16 |
| 1932 with a degree in
economics and sociology; and
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, From humble beginnings, Ronald Reagan went on to | 18 |
| become a
sportscaster, actor, Governor of California, and | 19 |
| President of the United
States, the first native son of | 20 |
| Illinois to serve as President; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan was elected President of the United | 22 |
| States in 1980; a
favorite of the American populace, he was | 23 |
| elected to a second term in 1984; and
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan, the 40th President of the | 25 |
| United States,
warrants a public tribute as a native son of | 26 |
| Illinois; and
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, On June 5, 2004, President Ronald Reagan passed |

| away; therefore, be it
| 2 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 3 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 4 |
| urge the Secretary of State and the Office of the Architect of | 5 |
| the Capitol to initiate the planning process to erect a statue | 6 |
| on the Capitol grounds in honor of President Ronald Reagan to | 7 |
| be funded through private resources; and be it further
| 8 |
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to | 9 |
| Secretary of State Jessie White and Mal Hildebrand, Executive | 10 |
| Director of the Office of the Architect of the Capitol.
