HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on February 6, 1911, in Tampico, the son of Nellie and John Reagan; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan and his family in 1915 moved to Galesburg, and he began his formal education at Silas Willard School; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan and his family then moved to Monmouth and resided in that fair community during his formative years from 1917 to 1919 and attended Monmouth Central School; and

WHEREAS, When Ronald Reagan was 9 years of age, the family settled in Dixon, where at Dixon High School he played football and basketball, ran track, served as president of the student body, and first performed as an actor; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan graduated from Eureka College in 1932 with a degree in economics and sociology; and

WHEREAS, From humble beginnings, Ronald Reagan went on to become a sportscaster, actor, Governor of California, and President of the United States, the first native son of Illinois to serve as President; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan was elected President of the United States in 1980; a favorite of the American populace, he was elected to a second term in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, warrants a public tribute as a native son of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, On June 5, 2004, President Ronald Reagan passed away; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Secretary of State and the Office of the Architect of the Capitol to initiate the planning process to erect a statue on the Capitol grounds in honor of President Ronald Reagan to be funded through private resources; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Secretary of State Jessie White and Mal Hildebrand, Executive Director of the Office of the Architect of the Capitol.
