SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

50 ILCS 750/4.5 new

Amends the Emergency Telephone System Act. Requires the Illinois Commerce Commission to establish the minimum number of answering positions required for each primary public safety answering point (PSAP) using a formula that takes into account the population of the county or municipality served by the PSAP and the volume of calls actually received by the PSAP.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning emergency telephone systems.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Emergency Telephone System Act is amended by adding Section 4.5 as follows:

(50 ILCS 750/4.5 new)

Sec. 4.5. Answering positions; minimum number required.

(a) For purposes of this Section, "PSAP" or "Public Safety Answering Point" means the initial answering location of a 911 call.

(b) The minimum number of answering positions required for each public safety answering point shall be established by the Commission using a formula that takes into account (i) the population of the county or municipality served by the PSAP and (ii) the volume of calls actually received by the PSAP.
