Amends the School Code. Prohibits the State Board of Education from purchasing irradiated food on behalf of school districts under a school food program. Prohibits a school board from purchasing irradiated food for a school and a school from serving irradiated food to students.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning schools.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections 2-3.135, 10-20.39, and 34-18.30 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/2-3.135 new)

Sec. 2-3.135. Purchase of irradiated food prohibited. The State Board of Education may not purchase irradiated food on behalf of school districts under a school food program.

(105 ILCS 5/10-20.39 new)

Sec. 10-20.39. Irradiated food in schools prohibited. A school board may not purchase irradiated food for a school, and a school may not serve irradiated food to students.

(105 ILCS 5/34-18.30 new)

Sec. 34-18.30. Irradiated food in schools prohibited. The board may not purchase irradiated food for a school, and a school may not serve irradiated food to students.
