Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Makes technical changes in a Section relating to the use of force in defense of a person.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT in relation to criminal law.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by changing Section 7-1 as follows:

(720 ILCS 5/7-1) (from Ch. 38, par. 7-1)

Sec. 7-1. Use of force in defense of person. A person is justified in the use of force against another when and to the extent that he or she reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or herself or another against such other's imminent use of unlawful force. However, the person he is justified in the use of force which is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if he or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another, or the commission of a forcible felony.
