SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
225 ILCS 454/5-30

    Amends the Real Estate License Act of 2000. Requires that applicants for a broker license who show evidence of receiving a baccalaureate degree including courses involving real estate or related material from a college or university approved by the Real Estate Education Advisory Council must give satisfactory evidence that they have completed either (i) at least 120 classroom hours, 45 of which shall be those hours required to obtain a salesperson's license plus 15 hours in brokerage administration courses in real estate courses approved by the Advisory Council or (ii) for applicants who currently hold a valid real estate salesperson's license, at least 75 hours in real estate courses, not including the courses that are required to obtain a salesperson's license.

A BILL FOR

1     AN ACT concerning professional regulation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Real Estate License Act of 2000 is amended
5 by changing Section 5-30 as follows:
 
6     (225 ILCS 454/5-30)
7     (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2010)
8     Sec. 5-30. Education requirements to obtain an original
9 broker or salesperson license.
10     (a) All applicants for a broker's license, except
11 applicants who are currently admitted to practice law by the
12 Supreme Court of Illinois and are currently in active standing,
13 meet the criteria set forth in subsection (c) of this Section
14 shall (i) give satisfactory evidence of having completed at
15 least 120 classroom hours, 45 of which shall be those hours
16 required to obtain a salesperson's license plus 15 hours in
17 brokerage administration courses, in real estate courses
18 approved by the Advisory Council or (ii) for applicants who
19 currently hold a valid real estate salesperson's license, give
20 satisfactory evidence of having completed at least 75 hours in
21 real estate courses, not including the courses that are
22 required to obtain a salesperson's license, approved by the
23 Advisory Council.
24     (b) All applicants for a salesperson's license, except
25 applicants who meet the criteria set forth in subsection (c) of
26 this Section shall give satisfactory evidence that they have
27 completed at least 45 hours of instruction in real estate
28 courses approved by the Advisory Council.
29     (c) The requirements specified in subsection subsections
30 (a) and (b) of this Section do not apply to applicants who:
31         (1) are currently admitted to practice law by the
32     Supreme Court of Illinois and are currently in active

1     standing; or
2         (2) show evidence of receiving a baccalaureate degree
3     including courses involving real estate or related
4     material from a college or university approved by the
5     Advisory Council.
6     (d) A minimum of 15 of the required hours of pre-license
7 education shall be in the areas of Article 15 of this Act,
8 disclosure and environmental issues, or any other currently
9 topical areas that are determined by the Advisory Council.
