    Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. Deletes provisions concerning requirements for being a member of a municipal electrical commission.

1     AN ACT concerning municipalities.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
5 changing Section 11-37-2 as follows:
 
6     (65 ILCS 5/11-37-2)  (from Ch. 24, par. 11-37-2)
7     Sec. 11-37-2. Any municipality by ordinance may regulate
8 the installation, alteration, and use of all electrical
9 equipment as provided in this Division 37 and may establish an
10 electrical inspection department for this regulation.
11     Each municipality which establishes such an electrical
12 inspection department shall also establish an electrical
13 commission, consisting of 6 members as follows: The
14 superintendent of electricity or the chief electrical
15 inspector of the municipality shall be a member and ex officio
16 chairman of the commission; of the other 5 members, one shall
17 be a registered professional engineer, one an electrical
18 contractor, one a journeyman electrician, one a representative
19 of an inspection bureau maintained by the fire underwriters, if
20 such a representative resides in the municipality, and if no
21 such representative resides in the municipality then the chief
22 of the fire department, and one representative of an
23 electricity supply company. If there is no person residing in
24 the municipality who is qualified under any one of these
25 descriptions, the mayor or president of the municipality may
26 appoint some other person to fill that position. All members of
27 the electrical commission shall be appointed by the mayor or
28 president of the municipality with the advice and consent of
29 the corporate authorities.
