 1        AN ACT concerning the regulation of professions.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The Funeral Directors and Embalmers Licensing
 5    Code is amended by changing Section 1-5 as follows:

 6        (225 ILCS 41/1-5)
 7        (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2013)
 8        Sec. 1-5.  Legislative intent. The  practice  of  funeral
 9    directing  and  embalming  in  this  the State of Illinois is
10    declared to be a practice affecting the public health, safety
11    and welfare and subject to  regulation  and  control  in  the
12    public  interest.  It  is  further declared to be a matter of
13    public interest and concern that the  preparation,  care  and
14    final  disposal  of  a  deceased  human body be attended with
15    appropriate observance and understanding, having  due  regard
16    and  respect  for the reverent care of the human body and for
17    those bereaved and the overall spiritual dignity of  man.  It
18    is  further  a matter of public interest that the practice of
19    funeral directing and embalming as defined in this Code merit
20    and receive the  confidence  of  the  public  and  that  only
21    qualified persons be authorized to practice funeral directing
22    and  embalming  in  the State of Illinois. This Code shall be
23    liberally construed to best  carry  out  these  subjects  and
24    purposes.
