SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard Dean "Dick" Baker, who passed
4away on April 6, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dick Baker was born in New Sharon, Iowa to Paul
6and Helen (Brower) Baker on January 22, 1931; following high
7school, he enlisted in the United States Marines and served in
8Korea as part of an explosive ordinance disposal team; after
9his service, he settled in Joliet and was part of the United
10States Marine Corps Reserve; he married Avril "Babe" Baker at
11the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus on October 9, 1954; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dick Baker was a man of consummate hospitality and
13service; he and Avril assembled the Murphy Acres Munchkins for
14backyard Fourth of July and Labor Day celebrations; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dick Baker was a Cub Scout and Indian Guide
16Leader, a Little League coach, a band parent, and a Jubilation
17Lounge chairperson; he served his Catholic Church community as
18a Parish Council President, Lector, Pastoral Care Minister to
19the homebound, Renew Group Host and Leader, and member of
20Fishers of Men; he was also a past volunteer with the Joliet
21Area Community Hospice; and

1    WHEREAS, Dick Baker was preceded in death by his wife of 56
2years, Avril; his parents; his son, Greg; his brother, Chuck;
3and his daughter-in-law, Kim; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dick Baker is survived by his sons, Mark (Denise),
5Fr. Brad, and Todd Baker; his daughter-in-law, Beth Baker; and
6his grandchildren, Richard (Ashlie), Bryan, and Brianna;
7therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Richard Dean "Dick" Baker and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Dick Baker as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
