HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Marshall City Band on
4its 150th year of service to the community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Marshall City Band was founded in 1875 by men
6in the community who had musical talent and interest in
7forming a band; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Marshall City Band was organized by Professor
9Leander Alexander as a 15 to 20 member "all-boy" brass and
10cornet band; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Marshall City Band performances were Thursday
12nights during the summer along with several other bands that
13played concerts and led parades in Marshall; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Marshall City Band was presented with a new
15bandstand in 1929, using donated materials and volunteer
16labor, which is still in use today; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The Marshall City Band was featured in National
18Geographic magazine in March 1998 as part of its America's
19First Highway story about the National Road; and

1    WHEREAS, The Marshall City Band currently performs on
2Friday nights and is a primary summer attraction in the city of
3Marshall; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Marshall City Band is the oldest,
5continuously-operating band in Illinois, starting as a brass
6and cornet band and evolving into the band it is today with 55
7dedicated musicians from all over the Wabash Valley who spend
8more than 3,000 total hours per summer preparing, rehearsing,
9and performing concerts; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Marshall City Band will be celebrating its
11150th season on June 6, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. on the Marshall
12courthouse lawn before the start of the new season; therefore,
13be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we congratulate the Marshall City Band on its 150th year of
17service to the community; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That we congratulate all of the generations of
19talented musicians who have offered their services to provide
20the City of Marshall with entertainment and culture during the
21summer season on the success of the Marshall City Band; and be
22it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the Marshall City Band as an expression of our
3respect and esteem for a century and a half of providing
4concerts and community service to the City of Marshall.
