| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the deaths of Michael "Mike" and Amy (Baker) | 4 | | Zinchuk of Champaign, who passed away on May 1, 2023; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mike Zinchuk was born to Roger and Hope Zinchuk | 6 | | in Chicago on January 3, 1968; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Amy Zinchuk was born to Eileen Owens and Robert | 8 | | Baker on July 6, 1968, and she was raised in Gifford; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Mike and Amy Zinchuk attended and met at the | 10 | | University of Illinois; they were married at St. Paul's | 11 | | Lutheran Church in Gifford on October 10, 1992; they raised | 12 | | their three children in Champaign, where they also became | 13 | | known for their penchant for raising big, friendly dogs; at | 14 | | the time of their passing, they had been married for over 30 | 15 | | years; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Mike Zinchuk was one-of-a-kind, a man who built | 17 | | his life around supporting his children and wife, was fierce | 18 | | in standing up for his family and himself, and was always | 19 | | willing to help a neighbor or offer help; through his own | 20 | | actions and encouragement, he instilled the values of critical | 21 | | thinking and hard work in his children; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Mike Zinchuk was known for his unmatched | 2 | | knowledge, goofiness, and vocabulary; he was an avid reader | 3 | | and lover of history, and he never stopped learning about | 4 | | individuals who inspired him; his mastery of the Lord of the | 5 | | Rings series was only surpassed by author J.R.R. Tolkien | 6 | | himself; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Amy Zinchuk was well known in the community for | 8 | | her passion for music and teaching piano; she loved music from | 9 | | an early age, and she started her college career studying | 10 | | music; after becoming a mother, a role she valued above all | 11 | | else, she began teaching friends' children at their request; | 12 | | through word of mouth, her home piano business grew to 60 | 13 | | students and lasted several decades; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Amy Zinchuk was her family's rock and their go-to | 15 | | person whenever anything bad or good happened; she cared | 16 | | deeply about her students and family; she passed on her | 17 | | personal brand of music to anyone she met, especially her | 18 | | children, and lived her life with the strong belief that | 19 | | dancing is appropriate in nearly every environment; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Mike and Amy Zinchuk were individuals who | 21 | | complemented each other in their differences and shared the | 22 | | same values and love for their children; they will remembered |

| 1 | | as beloved parents, friends, and so much more to many; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Mike and Amy Zinchuk were preceded in death by | 3 | | Mike's mother, Hope Zinchuk, and Amy's father, Robert Baker; | 4 | | and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mike and Amy Zinchuk are survived by their | 6 | | daughter, Elizabeth Zinchuk Stultz; their sons, Ethan Zinchuk | 7 | | and Matthew Zinchuk; their son-in-law, Joshua Stultz; their | 8 | | son's girlfriend, Francesca Roelle; Mike's siblings, Christine | 9 | | (Jim) Blaul, Tom Zinchuk, Joe (Julie) Zinchuk, Mary (Karl) | 10 | | Sealund, Brian (Jenny) Zinchuk, and John (Molly) Zinchuk; | 11 | | Amy's siblings, Neil (Diane) Baker and Julie Baker; 14 nieces | 12 | | and nephews; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; a host of | 13 | | aunts, uncles, and cousins; and their Alaskan Malamutes, Odin | 14 | | and Storm; therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 17 | | Michael "Mike" and Amy (Baker) Zinchuk and extend our sincere | 18 | | condolences to their family, friends, and all who knew and | 19 | | loved them; and be it further
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 | | presented to the family of Mike and Amy Zinchuk as an | 22 | | expression of our deepest sympathy.
