SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Edward John "Ed" Buss of McHenry, who
4passed away on February 23, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ed Buss was born on April 17, 1929, and he resided
6in McHenry his entire life; he excelled in academics and
7athletics in his youth; he married Joan Theresa in May 1950;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, After his father's unexpected passing, Ed Buss
10assumed the responsibility for his father's auto dealership,
11Buss Ford, at the age of 18 and became a successful
12businessman; although he rarely sold a car himself at the
13dealership, he would take care of problems and give people a
14ride home when their cars were being serviced; his sons joined
15the business in the 1970s, and one of his grandsons now runs
16it; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ed Buss was a civic-minded individual; he began
18his political life at the age of 33 in April 1963, running as
19an independent for the McHenry County Board; during his
20tenure, he was instrumental in the building of the Charles
21Miller Road and its bridge; he served on the board for 25
22years, retiring in 1988 after spending the last four years

1serving as chair; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Ed Buss coached youth baseball, basketball, and
3football; he was a lifetime supporter and a member of the
4McHenry Little League Association Board for 12 years; for his
5efforts and dedication, he was inducted into the McHenry
6Little League Association Hall of Fame, and Buss Field in
7McHenry was named after him; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ed Buss's fondest memories were spent at the
9McHenry Country Club, where he won 13 club championships and
1013 senior club championships and boasted a best round of 62; he
11was on the country club board of directors for 12 years and
12served as president for four years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ed Buss and Joan were members of St. Mary's
14Church in McHenry for their entire married life; in
15retirement, he enjoyed playing the stock market and wintering
16at their home in Surprise, Arizona; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ed Buss was preceded in death by his wife of 72
18years, Joan; his parents, Edward Buss Sr. and Ella (Newman)
19Buss; his grandson, Ryan; his sister, Betty; and his brother,
20Bernie; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Ed Buss is survived by his children, Judie (Leo)

1Dobner, Bonnie Bjorkman, Patricia (Sig) Schatz, Stephen
2(Diane) Buss, and Robert (Ann) Buss; his 14 grandchildren; and
3his 15 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Edward John "Ed" Buss and extend our sincere condolences to
7his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Ed Buss as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
