HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Steve Hill on the occasion of his retirement from the Grant Community High School District #124 Board of Education (GCHS BOE); and

WHEREAS, Steve Hill graduated from GCHS in 1972, where he played football, earning All-County Honors, and baseball; he was also a member of the band, the Chess Club, G Club, and the Bark newspaper staff, and he participated in homecoming, prom planning, and Student Government Day; his family includes three generations of GCHS graduates; and

WHEREAS, Professionally, Steve Hill worked as a plumber for 48 years, and he was also employed by the Chicago Bears football organization; additionally, he has served in a variety of volunteer roles in the local community; and

WHEREAS, Steve Hill joined the GCHS BOE in November 1989, where he has held the position of president since May 2007; during his tenure, he has served as a member of the Site and Facility Committee, passed numerous curricula, policy, and employment decisions, and been instrumental in a number of additions and improvements made to the school, including an auditorium, a library, an art wing, a science wing, a field house, and the Bulldog Athletic Complex; he has also played a crucial role in passing two successful education fund and building fund referendums, occurring in 2003 and 2008; and

WHEREAS, Steve Hill has served as the GCHS BOE's alternate member on the Illinois Association of School Board (IASB) and the Special Education District of Lake County (SEDOL); and

WHEREAS, Steve Hill has been recognized for his service to GCHS, being previously inducted into the GCHS Hall of Fame in 2020; he has also been cited for his work on the Site and Facility Committee and his involvement with IASB and SEDOL; and

WHEREAS, Steve Hill has always striven to serve in the best interest of GCHS students while maintaining a calm and steady demeanor, offering keen insights that have helped develop good relations with the staff and productive, mutually agreeable bargaining of union contracts; and

WHEREAS, Steve Hill, the longest-serving member of the GCHS BOE, will step down at the board's meeting on June 20, 2024; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Steve Hill on his retirement from the Grant Community High School District #124 Board of Education (GCHS BOE), and we commend him for his dedication and service to the students, staff, and community of GCHS for more than three decades; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Steve Hill as an expression of our esteem and respect.
