HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Head Coach Kurt Hasenstein of the Glenbrook South High School cross country and track and field teams, the Titans, on the occasion of his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Prior to coming to Glenbrook South High School, Coach Hasenstein graduated from Peoria Heights High School in Peoria Heights, where he competed in the IHSA as a three-sport athlete; he then attended North Central College in Naperville, competing as a track and field athlete, and was named a two-time NCAA Division 3 All-American in the decathlon and a four-time champion of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW); as a graduate assistant, he coached track and field and cross country at Minnesota State University, Mankato for two years; and

WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein, better known as "Coach Hass" to athletes, began teaching PE and coaching cross country at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview in August 1991; during his tenure, he has served as head coach of both the Glenbrook South High School cross country and track and field teams for more than two decades; and

WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has led both teams to victory across multiple events and seasons; in cross country, he has coached three state-qualifying teams, with the highest scoring achieving a 7th place finish in 1991, and several state-qualifying individual runners; in track and field, he has produced state-qualifying athletes for all but five of his 33 seasons as coach; indeed, he has guided athletes towards achieving state championships in the 300m hurdles, discus, and twice in the 100m dash, and he led teams that placed fifth overall in the State in both 2021 and 2022; and

WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has given back to the community through organizing an annual fundraising run for the local food pantry that has been held every October for the past 26 years, which has raised more than $100,000 overall; and

WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has proven his commitment to his student athletes through his uncanny ability to remember all his former athletes and their respective accomplishments without hesitation; and

WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has conducted himself as a Titan in every sense of the word, and he deserves to have every honor and recognition bestowed upon him for his years of service; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Head Coach Kurt Hasenstein of the Glenbrook South High School cross country and track and field teams, the Titans, on his retirement, and we thank him for his commitment to students, athletes, and the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Hasenstein as an expression of our esteem and respect.
