| | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the John A. Logan College | | 4 | | men's basketball team, the Volunteers, located in Carterville, | | 5 | | on winning the 2023 National Junior College Athletic | | 6 | | Association (NJCAA) Division I National Championship; and
| | 7 | | WHEREAS, The John A. Logan College men's basketball team | | 8 | | amassed an impressive 33-2 record, including winning four | | 9 | | games in six days on its way to the first national championship | | 10 | | in program history and only the second championship in | | 11 | | Illinois history; and
| | 12 | | WHEREAS, The John A. Logan College men's basketball team | | 13 | | is led by Head Coach Tyler Smithpeters, Assistant Coach Tadd | | 14 | | Andrews, and Assistant Coach Marcus Walker, who all worked | | 15 | | tirelessly to build team chemistry and lead the team to a | | 16 | | record-breaking championship season; for his efforts, Coach | | 17 | | Smithpeters was named the 2022-23 NJCAA Division I Men's | | 18 | | Basketball Coach of the Year; and
| | 19 | | WHEREAS, The John A. Logan College men's basketball team | | 20 | | is comprised of James Dent, Rayzhaun Bardo, Quimari Peterson, | | 21 | | Elijah Jones, Sean Smith, Justin Cross, Teon Nesbitt, Grant | | 22 | | Jones, Isaiah Stafford, Eli Downen, Elliot Lowndes, KJ |

| | 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | | 4 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | | 5 | | we congratulate the John A. Logan College men's basketball | | 6 | | team, the Volunteers, on winning the 2023 National Junior | | 7 | | College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I National | | 8 | | Championship; and be it further
