HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Christopher High School girls basketball team, the Lady Bearcats, on finishing in 2nd place in IHSA Class 1A Girls Basketball for the 2022-23 season; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Bearcats started the season by winning the DuQuoin Tip-Off Tournament and finished the season with an impressive record of 31 wins and 4 losses; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Bearcats won the West Division for the third consecutive year and went undefeated in the Black Diamond Conference; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Bearcats became Regional Champions with a 35 to 28 win over Woodlawn High School and Sectional Champions with a 58 to 43 win over Edwards County High School (Albion), the first basketball team in school history to win a Sectional Championship; they became Super-Sectional Champions with a 50 to 45 win over Neoga High School; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Bearcats earned their spot in the championship game with a commanding 42 to 28 win in the State Semifinal game over The High School of St. Thomas More in Champaign; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Bearcats' season came to an end with a loss in the state championship game to Okawville High School; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Bearcats are led by Head Coach Hayden Carter, Assistant Coaches Madeline Gossett and Grant Gordon, and Managers Madison Brower, Valerie Gunter, and Mason Hill; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Lady Bearcats are #3 Senior Jessica Gordon, #5 Senior Makayla Dejear, #0 Senior Tori Crain, #21 Senior Emily Van Hoorebeke, #14 Senior McKensie Jackson, #40 Senior Salena Key, #22 Junior Amiah Hargrove, #20 Junior Lily Phelps, #30 Junior Hanna Baugh, #45 Junior Kandice Green, #11 Sophomore Emma Wampler, #13 Freshman Londynn Pontious, #32 Freshman Kirstin Brown, #4 Freshman Macey Marlow, and #23 Freshman Lexi Todd; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Christopher High School girls basketball team, the Lady Bearcats, on finishing in 2nd place in Class 1A Girls Basketball for the 2022-23 season, and we wish them many more successful seasons; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the coaches and players of the Christopher High School girls basketball team, the Lady Bearcats, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
