SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Pontiac Correctional Center has received IEPA violations on water quality; and

WHEREAS, The Pontiac Correctional Center has had multiple assaults on staff by inmates in 2023; and

WHEREAS, In 2022, the Executive Inspector General released a report on the work environment at the Pontiac Correctional Center that noted cases of sexual harassment; and

WHEREAS, In December of 2022, officers at the Pontiac Correctional Center staged a picket in protest of unsafe working conditions; and

WHEREAS, After this issue came to the public's attention, the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) was requested to provide a long-term plan for the Pontiac Correctional Center; one year later, IDOC has failed to do so; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we call upon the Department Of Corrections to provide a long-term plan for the Pontiac Correctional Center that includes the following:

(1) Plans for physical facilities/buildings, including maintenance needs and any repair projects planned or building closures;

(2) Planned staffing levels;

(3) Planned inmate population levels; and

(3) An analysis of how the Pontiac Correctional Center fits into the overall state correctional system; and be it further

RESOLVED, It is important that plans are made so staff and inmates can operate in a safe and proper environment; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be delivered to the Director of the Illinois Department of Corrections.
