SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James Robert "Jim" King, who passed away on November 18, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Jim King was born to Robert and Virginia (Braden) King in Pekin on July 2, 1942; he served aboard the USS O'Hare in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965, during which he participated in the naval blockade over the course of the Cuban Missle Crisis; he married Cheryl (Harris) King in Morton on October 15, 1966; and

WHEREAS, Jim King worked as an electrician with IBEW Local 34 for 36 years, retiring in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Jim King enjoyed spending time on the lake and teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish; he loved hunting, cutting wood, and reading; he was creative and had a knack for inventing tools to make his life easier; he was also a fierce euchre player and a practical joker; and

WHEREAS, Jim King was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John "Jack" King; and

WHEREAS, Jim King is survived by his children, Jeff (Evelyn), Jennifer (Greg), and Jamie (Daniel); three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two granddogs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James Robert "Jim" King and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jim King as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
