SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Bruce Simon of Springfield, who passed
4away on October 23, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was born to Fred and Nancy (Fell)
6Simon in Chicago on December 9, 1948; he spent his younger
7years in Gary, Indiana; he earned his bachelor's degree in
8political science from Indiana State University, where he was
9student body president; he served as a medic and drug
10counselor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; he married
11Marguerite Feeley on July 25, 1987; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon worked for Indiana U.S. Senator Vance
13Hartke and then as a legislative liaison at a variety of state
14agencies providing human services; after leaving state
15government, he had a successful career as a lobbyist for more
16than 25 years, primarily representing clients in healthcare
17related fields; he was also a co-founder of The Association of
18Safety Net Community Hospitals in Illinois and helped to
19establish the Medicaid data warehouse; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was involved in many community
21programs, including serving as a member of the Springfield
22Public School Foundation; and

1    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was the recipient of many awards for
2outstanding public service to people in need; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan,
4and he was a proud founding member of the bipartisan White Sox
5Caucus in Springfield; he was devoted to his family and
6reveled in their activities and accomplishments, and he
7cherished spending time with them, including going to the
8movies and on family vacations to Disney World, Coronado,
9Michigan, and Ireland; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon will be remembered as a selfless,
11thoughtful, and compassionate man; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was preceded in death by his parents;
13his brothers, Ed Simon and Bobby Simon; his nephew, Tom
14Zimmerman; and his parents-in-law, Jim Feeley and Mary Beth
15Feeley; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon is survived by his wife; his
17children, Eileen (Patrick) Besler, Mary Kate Simon, and
18Michael Simon; his grandchildren, Peter Patrick and William
19Bruce Besler; his sisters, Leslie (Bob) Zimmerman and Mary
20(Mike) Groves; his brothers, Dave (Karen) Simon, Gerry (Donna)
21Simon, Mike Simon, and Danny (Alison) Simon; his aunt, Fran

1Fell; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law,
2and sisters-in-law; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Bruce Simon and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
6friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Bruce Simon as an expression of our
9deepest sympathy.
