SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lisa Marie Stanley of Decatur, who passed away on November 4, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley was born to Halton Robinson and Jacqueline King in Decatur on January 20, 1965; she graduated from Eisenhower High School and went on to study theology at Lincoln Christian University before pursuing a degree in workforce education and development at Southern Illinois University; she also graduated from the Illinois Women's Institute for Leadership Training Academy in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley served as a legislative liaison for former U.S. Representative David Phelps and worked for various State agencies, including then-Governor Rod Blagojevich's office and the Department of Healthcare and Family Services; she also served as an aide to former State Senator Andy Manar and ran his Decatur office; prior to her work in politics, she worked at an agency that handled case-management for women with high-risk pregnancies; and

WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley was appointed to the Decatur Township Board in 2011 and elected supervisor in 2013, becoming the first African-American woman to hold the position in Decatur; during her tenure, she demonstrated exemplary leadership and a passionate pursuit of equality and fairness; she served as township supervisor until her passing; and

WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley served on boards of The Boys & Girls Club of Decatur and Youth with a Positive Direction; she was a dedicated member of Realm Global International Ministries; and

WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley will be remembered as a role model, a source of inspiration, and a pillar of strength; and

WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley was preceded in death by her father and her grandmother, Verneida Madison; and

WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley is survived by her son, Anthony (Jennifer) Stanley; her granddaughters, Camorre Beasley and Zara Stanley; her mother; her brother, Charles King; her sister, Crystal Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lisa Marie Stanley and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lisa Stanley as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
