SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Olin U. Cowser of Woodhull, who passed away on September 5, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Olin Cowser was born to John and Goldie (Hedricks) Cowser in Marceline, Missouri on February 15, 1925; after graduation, he moved to the Alpha area, where he did farm work; he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and joined the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper, where he completed numerous jumps; he married Elnora Carlson in Keytesville, Missouri on December 29, 1944; three days later, he was deployed to Europe; and

WHEREAS, Upon his return from the war, Olin Cowser joined with Clyde Parker in the heavy equipment excavating business, later becoming Cowser Construction; he owned and operated his business for over 50 years before stepping down from his bulldozer; in retirement, he enjoyed mowing every yard between his home and the highway; and

WHEREAS, Olin Cowser was a member of United Church of Woodhull; and

WHEREAS, Olin Cowser enjoyed attending family gatherings, spending time with his many friends over coffee or cards, eating his wife's wonderful cooking, and attending athletic events of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; he also enjoyed hot, sunny days and chocolate pie; and

WHEREAS, Olin Cowser was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Elnora; his parents; and his siblings, Charles, Richard, Lucille, and Lurene; and

WHEREAS, Olin Cowser is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Bill) Callanan; his sons, Daniel (Kathleen) Cowser, Jim (Vanya) Cowser, and Larry Cowser; his grandchildren, Ali, Ryan, Joshua, Deja, Bree, Kendra, Kassi, and Michael; his great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Olin U. Cowser and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Olin Cowser as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
