SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Ann Shalla of Chicago, who passed away
4on June 25, 2022 at the age of 84; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ann Shalla was born to Ray Hamill and Donna
6(Blake) Simpson in New York, New York on April 10, 1938; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ann Shalla graduated from University High School
8in Champaign in 1955; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ann Shalla married Theodore Shalla in 1957 and
10moved to Chicago, where she had two sons, then divorced and
11pursued an acting career; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ann Shalla lived in Franklin Park, Chicago, and
13Oak Park in Illinois, in South Pasadena, Hollywood, and North
14Hollywood in California, and in Green Valley, Arizona; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ann Shalla performed on the television show
16Matlock; she also won a world record for laughing, a record
17that stood at four hours and six minutes on the David Frost
18special; she worked for Actor's Equity in Chicago; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ann Shalla had a lifelong love for all forms of

1creativity, including acting, comedy, performance,
2architecture, interior design, sewing, fine arts, music, and
3cooking; she had an exuberant and friendly personality,
4leading her to make friends all over the world; she was always
5the life of the party and was a passionate supporter of women's
6rights and the rights of marginalized people; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ann Shalla was preceded in death by her sister,
8Jean Simpson Sheets; her brother, David Kim Simpson; and her
9dogs, Kerrie and Marilyn; and
 
10    WHEREAS, At the time of her passing, Ann Shalla was
11survived by her sons, Quintin and Kevin (Tory Ferrara); her
12brothers, Jim (Teri) Simpson, Bob Simpson (Betty Anderson),
13and Frank (Suzan) Simpson; her grandchildren Luke (Angelina
14Lucero), William, and Jamie; her nieces and nephews, Kathy
15Kramer (Suzzy McCafferty), Justin Simpson, Josh Simpson
16(Natalie Baxter), Larkin (Peter) O'Leary, and Harriet (Ben)
17Hollingsworth; her former sister-in-law, Kris Simpson; and her
18dear friends, Sally Havens, Kayri Mealy, Kathy Lamkey, Hal
19Baim, Pat Benson, and Kay Thompson; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Ann Shalla and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
23friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Ann Shalla as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
