HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and

WHEREAS, Marine Lance Cpl. Drew M. Uhles of DuQuoin died from injuries received due to enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq on September 15, 2004 and subsequently was awarded the Purple Heart; and

WHEREAS, LCpl. Uhles was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California; and

WHEREAS, LCpl. Uhles received numerous awards during his exemplary service to our nation, including the Combat Action Ribbon, the Rifle Marksman Badge, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Good Conduct Award, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of Route 51 that runs through St. Johns as the "LCpl. Drew M. Uhles Memorial Highway"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving notice of the name "LCpl. Drew M. Uhles Memorial Highway"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the family of LCpl. Uhles, the Mayor of St. Johns, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
