SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Olof Evald "Olle" Johnson of Moline,
4who passed away on December 12, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Olof Johnson was born to Olof F. and Ingrid
6Anderson Johnson in Moline on December 1939; he graduated from
7Moline High School and Augustana College; he married Caran
8Louise Hylander at Gloria Dei Lutheran in Providence, Rhode
9Island in 1968; he served in the U.S. Army Security Agency and
10was assigned to Kagnew Station, a remote listening post in
11Ethiopia; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Olof Johnson was employed with International
13Harvester at the Farmall Plant for 20 years; he then worked as
14an intelligence specialist for the U.S. Army Industrial
15Operations Command at the Rock Island Arsenal and then as the
16special security officer for the U.S. Army Sustainment
17Command; he retired in 2007 after 24 years of government
18service; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Olof Johnson was baptized and confirmed at First
20Lutheran in Moline; he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church
21in Moline for 56 years; and

1    WHEREAS, Olof Johnson was proud of his Swedish heritage;
2he was widely traveled, taking annual summer camping trips
3with his family across the U.S.A. and having traveled to 40
4countries on five continents; he took great pride in enhancing
5and maintaining his yard, and he enjoyed sitting under the
6pergola after dinner to be entertained by hummingbirds and the
7occasional deer; he also enjoyed fly fishing, taking annual
8trips to the Bennett Spring State Park, riding his Harley
9motorcycle, shooting sports, and bicycling; he spent his
10retirement years enjoying his family and friends, traveling,
11and spending ten wonderful winters in The Villages, Florida;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Olof Johnson was preceded in death by his sister,
14Gertrude Phillips, and his nephew, John Phillips; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Olof Johnson is survived by his wife of almost 53
16years, Caran; his son, Karl; his son, Kai, and his
17daughter-in-law, Tricia; his grandsons, Jake and Dane; his
18nieces and nephew, Kristina Napiorkowski, Kirsten Paluska, and
19Ken Hylander; and his loving family and friends; therefore, be
20it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23Olof Evald "Olle" Johnson and extend our sincere condolences

1to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
2it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Olof Johnson as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
