SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Natalie Susan McDowell of Monticello, who passed away on November 6, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Natalie McDowell was born in Decatur to Kathleen (Brown) and James Mauck Sr. on February 1, 1967; she graduated from Sullivan High School in 1985 and attended Millikin University, where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1989; she married Brian D. McDowell at the First United Methodist Church in Sullivan on June 15, 1991; and

WHEREAS, Natalie McDowell was a compassionate and caring nurse who worked with the Decatur Memorial Hospital pediatrics department, the Lincolnland Visiting Nurses Association, and the Sullivan, Bement, and Monticello school systems; and

WHEREAS, Natalie McDowell was active in Kirby Medical Center CrossFit and St. Jude's runs; she never missed her sons' school activities or sports and was an avid fan of the Illini, the Green Bay Packers, and the St. Louis Cardinals because they were her sons' favorite teams; she was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, where she served as Director of Youth Ministry; she led high school and middle school youth groups and planned and accompanied youth on numerous retreats and mission trips; and

WHEREAS, Natalie McDowell was a devoted and loving wife and mother; she was a dedicated and attentive mother-in-law, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, aunt, and cousin; she was an incredibly upbeat and positive person, with a smile and a ready laugh to greet everyone she met; she had boundless energy; and

WHEREAS, Natalie McDowell was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, Jerry McDowell; and her brother-in-law, Steven Breckenridge; and

WHEREAS, Natalie McDowell is survived by her husband, Brian; her sons, Andrew J. (Sarah) McDowell and Austin L. McDowell (Lily Stromberg); her brothers, Dr. James (Patricia) Mauck and Dr. Gregory (Kimberly) Mauck; her sister, Cindy (Greg) Tarr; her mother-in-law, Judy McDowell; her sister-in-law, Kim (Jerry Long) Breckenridge; her relatives, Linda and Grant Hoskins and Marlyn (Joe) Harrison; 17 nieces and nephews; nine grandnieces and grandnephews; 11 cousins; and numerous friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Natalie Susan McDowell and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Natalie McDowell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
