SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Edward "Big Ed" Jawoisz of Rock Island, who passed away on October 10, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jawoisz was born in Moline to John and Jadwiga Zelnio Jawoisz on March 22, 1928; he graduated from Moline High School, where he was a star basketball player; he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and married Elaine M. Scheel in Rock Island on August 12, 1950; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jawoisz was a supervisor at the Moline Post Office and retired in 1983 after 33 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jawoisz was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Rock Island; he enjoyed visiting Jumer's Casino, where he was an Emerald Club member; he was an avid fan of Notre Dame sports; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jawoisz was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Jawoisz; his son, John E. Jawoisz; his parents; his sister, Helena Jawoisz; and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Jawoisz; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jawoisz is survived by his wife of 71 years, Elaine; his daughters, Jeri (John) Lauer, Jody (Corey) Rivett, and Joni (Jerry) Gates; his grandchildren, Tim (Nancy) Lauer, Laura (Zach) Vroman, Emily Jawoisz, Marcus Hawkins, and Sara Hawkins; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Nick Jawoisz; several nieces and nephews; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Yotts; and his special friends, King Au and Gail Warren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Edward "Big Ed" Jawoisz and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edward Jawoisz as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
