SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Robert J. "Bob" Cassidy of Peoria, who
4passed away on July 2, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Cassidy was born in Peoria to Robert A. "Bib"
6Cassidy and Delores M. (Wyzlic) Cassidy on September 19, 1949;
7he was raised in the South Side of Peoria; he attended St.
8Boniface Grade School and graduated from Manual High School in
91969; he then completed a 5-year Steamfitter apprenticeship;
10he married Mary Alycia Navarro on April 4, 1970, and they
11raised their four children in Bartonville; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bob Cassidy became a devoted member of
13Steamfitters Local 353; during his 50-year career within the
14Steamfitter union, he served in many capacities, including as
15business agent and business manager; he retired as a state
16organizer for the Illinois Pipe Trades in 2009; he also served
17on multiple committees and was a union steward for the Edward
18Power Station and the Pabst Brewing Company; he enjoyed
19traveling for his union brotherhood alongside his wife, Mary;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Bob Cassidy was an avid golfer, joke teller,
22sports fan, and coach; he enjoyed vacationing and spending

1time with his family; he loved being a full-time grandfather
2during his retirement and enjoyed watching his grandchildren
3play sports; he coached countless soccer, softball, baseball,
4and football teams over the years; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Cassidy was an incredible father who was
6known for being protective, caring, warm, selfless, and
7candid; he served as an endless source of guidance, fatherly
8advice, discipline, and humor for his children and their many
9friends; he always put others before himself and gave more
10than he received; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Bob Cassidy was preceded in death by his parents
12and his brother, John A. Cassidy; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Bob Cassidy is survived by his wife of 51 years,
14Mary A. Cassidy; his children, Bobby (Toni) Cassidy II, Erica
15(Jeremy) Placher, Bret (Kirbie) Cassidy, and Nicole (Nate)
16Shaw; his grandchildren, Roman Cassidy, Sophia Cassidy, Nolan
17Placher, Pierce Placher, and Brooks Placher; and his sisters,
18Linda (David) Ogle, Karen Clark, and Donna (Ray) Crawl;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Robert J. "Bob" Cassidy and extend our sincere condolences to

1his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
2further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Bob Cassidy as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
