SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new
ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2

    Proposes to amend the Legislature Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that a person may not hold the office of State Senator or State Representative for more than 10 years in each office. Provides that service before the second Wednesday in January 2021 shall not be considered in the calculation of a person's service. Proposes to amend the Executive Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that no elected officer of the Executive Branch may hold office for more than 10 years in each Executive Branch office. Provides that service before the second Monday in January of 2019 shall not be considered in the calculation of a person's service. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
5REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be
6submitted to the electors of the State for adoption or
7rejection at the general election next occurring at least 6
8months after the adoption of this resolution a proposition to
9add Section 2.5 to Article IV and amend Section 2 of Article V
10of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

THE LEGISLATURE

13    (ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new)
14SECTION 2.5. TERM LIMITS
15    A person may not hold the office of State Senator or State
16Representative for more than 10 years in each office. Service
17before the second Wednesday in January 2021 shall not be

1SECTION 2. TERMS
2    These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall hold
3office for four years beginning on the second Monday of
4January after their election and, except in the case of the
5Lieutenant Governor, until their successors are qualified.
6They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and every
7four years thereafter. No elected officer of the Executive
8Branch may hold office for more than 10 years in each Executive
9Branch office. Service before the second Monday in January of
102019 shall not be considered in the calculation of a person's
11service.

SCHEDULE
14    This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
15declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
16Constitutional Amendment Act.
