SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-609.2 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Allows the Secretary of State to issue Law Enforcement Medal of Honor license plates. Provides that the plates shall display the Law Enforcement Medal of Honor.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-609.2 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-609.2 new)
7    Sec. 3-609.2. Law Enforcement Medal of Honor license
8plates.
9    (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
10Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and
11applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may
12issue Law Enforcement Medal of Honor license plates to
13residents of this State who meet eligibility requirements
14prescribed by the Secretary. The special Law Enforcement Medal
15of Honor plate issued under this Section shall be affixed only
16to passenger vehicles of the first division, motorcycles, and
17motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
188,000 pounds. Plates issued under this Section shall expire
19according to the staggered multi-year procedure established by
20Section 3-414.1.
21    (b) The plates shall display the Law Enforcement Medal of
22Honor. In all other respects, the design, color, and format of
23the plates shall be within the discretion of the Secretary.

1The Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates
2to be issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance
3with Section 3-405.1. The plates are not required to designate
4"Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of Section
53-412. The Secretary shall prescribe the eligibility
6requirements and, in the Secretary's discretion, shall approve
7and prescribe stickers or decals as provided under Section
83-412.
