| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
| 4 | | Section 5. The Department of Professional Regulation Law | 5 | | of the
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by | 6 | | adding Section 2105-365 as follows: | 7 | | (20 ILCS 2105/2105-365 new) | 8 | | Sec. 2105-365. Continuing education; Alzheimer's disease | 9 | | and other dementias. | 10 | | (a) As used in this Section, "health care professional" | 11 | | means a person licensed or registered by the Department under | 12 | | the following Acts: the Medical Practice Act of 1987, the | 13 | | Nurse Practice Act, the Clinical Psychologist Licensing Act, | 14 | | the Illinois Optometric Practice Act of 1987, the Illinois | 15 | | Physical Therapy Act, the Physician Assistant Practice Act of | 16 | | 1987, the Clinical Social Work and Social Work Practice Act, | 17 | | the Nursing Home Administrators Licensing and Disciplinary | 18 | | Act, the Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act, the | 19 | | Podiatric Medical Practice Act of 1987, the Respiratory Care | 20 | | Practice Act, the Professional Counselor and Clinical | 21 | | Professional Counselor Licensing and Practice Act, and the | 22 | | Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Practice Act. | 23 | | (b) For license or registration renewals occurring on or |

| 1 | | after January 1, 2023, a health care professional who has | 2 | | continuing education requirements must complete at least a | 3 | | one-hour course in training on the diagnosis, treatment, and | 4 | | care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other | 5 | | dementias per renewal period. This training shall include, but | 6 | | not be limited to, assessment and diagnosis, effective | 7 | | communication strategies, and management and care planning. | 8 | | This requirement shall only apply to health care professionals | 9 | | who provide health care services to, and have direct patient | 10 | | interactions with, adult populations age 26 or older in the | 11 | | practice of their profession. A health care professional may | 12 | | count this one hour for completion of this course toward | 13 | | meeting the minimum credit hours required for continuing | 14 | | education. Any training on Alzheimer's disease and other | 15 | | dementias applied to meet any other State licensure | 16 | | requirement, professional accreditation or certification | 17 | | requirement, or health care institutional practice agreement | 18 | | may count toward the continuing education requirement under | 19 | | this Section. | 20 | | (c) The Department may adopt rules for the implementation | 21 | | of this Section.
