HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is the progressive,
3gradual loss of kidney function, which results in a decrease
4in the ability of the kidneys to remove waste from the body;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, It is estimated that 37 million adults in the
7United States have CKD, and of those, approximately 90 percent
8remain undiagnosed; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Without diagnosis and treatment to slow its
10progression, CKD can progress to end-stage renal failure,
11which is fatal unless the patient receives dialysis or a
12kidney transplant; and
 
13    WHEREAS, CKD is associated with more severe COVID-19
14infections, and COVID-19 may cause acute kidney damage that
15can lead to dialysis or even death; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Regular screening and early detection can prevent
17the progression of kidney disease to kidney failure, and it is
18essential that awareness of kidney disease and the importance
19of prevention and early detection be raised; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Kidney disease awareness empowers patients and

1families to seek diagnosis, support, and appropriate
2treatment; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we declare the month of March of 2022 as Kidney Disease
6Awareness Month in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That we declare March 10, 2022 as Kidney Day in
8the State of Illinois in order to increase education and
9awareness about kidney health.
