HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, A group of Hindu organizations started the season
3of giving with the Sewa Diwali Food Drive; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Sewa is an act of selfless service embedded in
5Hindu tradition and culture; Diwali is a Hindu festival that
6celebrates the victory of light over darkness; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Sewa Diwali Food Drive was organized by the
8Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA (HSS) Buffalo Grove branch, SEWA
9International, the Chinmaya Mission - Yamunotri, the Lake
10County Indians Association, and the SVG Charity - Shri
11Swaminarayan Temple Wheeling - Vadtal Dham Chicago; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Fostering the importance of selfless volunteering
13and of helping those in need, many families participated and
14engaged their communities by going door-to-door, utilizing
15social media, and holding several community campaigns; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA (HSS) Buffalo
17Grove branch donated 1,953 pounds of food to the Vernon
18Township Food Pantry; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The statewide Sewa Diwali effort collected and
20delivered over 51,102 pounds of food items to food pantries

1across Illinois; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we commend the efforts of all supporting organizations of the
52021 Sewa Diwali Food Drive and thank them for their donations
6to the Vernon Township Food Pantry and food pantries across
7Illinois; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA (HSS) Buffalo
10Grove branch as an expression of our esteem and respect.
