HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend Hispanic Star Chicago for the
4organization's efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Hispanic Star Chicago is the Chicago hub of the
7national organization Hispanic Star, which is a collective
8effort to unify Hispanics and bring solutions that help them
9overcome barriers they face through leading companies,
10Hispanic organizations, and community leaders joining together
11to provide relief to people in need, opportunities, career
12development, and support for families; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Hispanic Star Chicago, under the leadership of
14the Chicago HUB Leader and Ambassadors, rallied the community
15to help Hispanic families struggling financially during the
16COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 by raising $20,000 to bring a
17truck-load full of food to Chicago, which was then distributed
18into 2,500 boxes to Latino families in need in the Chicago
19Neighborhoods who were the hardest hit by COVID-19; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Hispanic Star Chicago has assisted 10 Chicagoland
21communities, which were Belmont-Cragin, Little Village, West
22Lawn, Cicero, Back of the Yards, Humboldt Park, Mckinley Park,

1Brighton Park, Avondale, and Pilsen; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Hispanic Star Chicago has supported 20
3organizations and joined efforts with 10 local elected
4officials in the Chicagoland area; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Hispanic Star Chicago also worked with local
6businesses and Chicago Public Schools to provide Thanksgiving
7meals to 50 families; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we commend Hispanic Star Chicago for the organization's
11service during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and its continued
12commitment to addressing the needs of the Latino communities
13of Chicago; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Hispanic Star Chicago as an expression of our
16esteem and respect.
