HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend Hispanic Star Chicago for the organization's efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic Star Chicago is the Chicago hub of the national organization Hispanic Star, which is a collective effort to unify Hispanics and bring solutions that help them overcome barriers they face through leading companies, Hispanic organizations, and community leaders joining together to provide relief to people in need, opportunities, career development, and support for families; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic Star Chicago, under the leadership of the Chicago HUB Leader and Ambassadors, rallied the community to help Hispanic families struggling financially during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 by raising $20,000 to bring a truck-load full of food to Chicago, which was then distributed into 2,500 boxes to Latino families in need in the Chicago Neighborhoods who were the hardest hit by COVID-19; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic Star Chicago has assisted 10 Chicagoland communities, which were Belmont-Cragin, Little Village, West Lawn, Cicero, Back of the Yards, Humboldt Park, Mckinley Park, Brighton Park, Avondale, and Pilsen; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic Star Chicago has supported 20 organizations and joined efforts with 10 local elected officials in the Chicagoland area; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic Star Chicago also worked with local businesses and Chicago Public Schools to provide Thanksgiving meals to 50 families; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Hispanic Star Chicago for the organization's service during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and its continued commitment to addressing the needs of the Latino communities of Chicago; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Hispanic Star Chicago as an expression of our esteem and respect.
