SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 1370/1-65 new

    Amends the Department of Innovation and Technology Act. Requires the Department of Innovation and Technology to work to ensure the security of the social media and Internet presence of State elected officials and State agencies and, to the extent possible, reserve the use of State government online accounts, whether social media or email, for use only by State officials, State agencies, and employees thereof, to prevent false personation. Provides for the adoption of rules. Defines "false personation".

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Innovation and Technology Act
5is amended by adding Section 1-65 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 1370/1-65 new)
7    Sec. 1-65. State government Internet credentials; false
8personation. As soon as practicable after the effective date
9of this amendatory Act of the 102nd General Assembly, the
10Department shall work to ensure the security of the social
11media and Internet presence of State elected officials and
12State agencies, and shall, to the extent possible, reserve the
13use of State government online accounts, whether social media
14or email, for use only by State officials, State agencies, and
15employees thereof, to prevent false personation. The
16Department shall adopt all rules necessary for the
17implementation of this Section. For the purposes of this
18Section, "false personation" has the same meaning as provided
19under Section 17-2 of the Criminal Code of 2012.
