AN ACT concerning regulation.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Medical Patient Rights Act is amended by adding Section 8 as follows:

(410 ILCS 50/8 new)

Sec. 8. COVID-19 testing; debt.

(a) In this Section, "health care professional" means a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, a registered professional nurse, advanced practice registered nurse, emergency medical technician, or other individual appropriately licensed or registered to provide health care services.

(b) A health care professional or health care provider shall not contact a collection agency to collect unpaid debt when a patient has a late payment or nonpayment of a medical bill for COVID-19 testing, nor shall the health care professional or health care provider report the late payment or nonpayment to a credit reporting agency.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
