SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/2-3.182 new

    Amends the School Code. Subject to appropriation, requires the State Board of Education to establish and implement a statewide, online curricula program that allows public schools the option to access school curricula, coursework, course material, modules, textbooks, streaming videos, tests, software, and any other tools or materials required for the successful completion of a course of study through an online portal. Provides that the program may be used to support in-person instruction and remote and blended remote learning and to supplement course curricula or may be used as a stand-alone resource available to educators and students. Provides that the program shall be made accessible to schools and students through a platform available through the State Board. Allows a school board to adopt a policy for the use and implementation of this program. Provides for funding and rulemaking.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
52-3.182 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/2-3.182 new)
7    Sec. 2-3.182. Online curricula program.
8    (a) Subject to appropriation, the State Board of Education
9shall establish and implement a statewide, online curricula
10program that allows public schools the option to access school
11curricula, coursework, course material, modules, textbooks,
12streaming videos, tests, software, and any other tools or
13materials required for the successful completion of a course
14of study through an online portal. The online curricula
15program may be used to support in-person instruction and
16remote and blended remote learning as provided under Sections
1710-30 and 34-18.66 of this Code and to supplement course
18curricula or may be used as a stand-alone resource available
19to educators and students.
20    (b) The online curricula program shall be made accessible
21to schools and students through a platform available through
22the State Board of Education. A school board may adopt a policy
23for the use and implementation of this program.

1    (c) Funds available through COVID-19 relief may be used to
2fund this program.
3    (d) The State Board of Education may adopt any rules that
4may be necessary for the establishment and implementation of
5this Section.
