SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Michael G. "Mike" Nickols, who passed
4away on March 7, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Nickols was born to G. Allen Nickols and
6Iris (Seay) Wesley in Charlottesville, Virginia on September
721, 1979; he spent the majority of his life in Springfield,
8Illinois; he graduated from Lutheran High School in 1997,
9where he distinguished himself as a varsity soccer player; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mike Nickols served as an accountant at the
11Illinois State Comptroller's Office for more than 14 years,
12and he also dedicated his time as a union steward; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mike Nickols generously contributed to multiple
14charities and eagerly anticipated sponsoring and attending
15local charity golf events each summer with his friends and
16stepfather; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mike Nickols was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis
18Cardinals, and he became a Pittsburgh Steelers fan after the
19Rams left St. Louis; he enjoyed playing in numerous softball,
20darts, golf, soccer, and fantasy sports leagues; while
21vacationing, he preferred fishing, binge-watching comedies,

1and cooking out for his family and friends on the deck; his
2greatest joy in life was spending time with his sons and
3grandsons; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mike Nickols was known for his innate gift of
5conversation and his unparalleled ability to connect with and
6unite people, infusing warmth and laughter into every
7gathering and incorporating his unique blend of music, humor,
8and dance into any situation, often in his signature quirky
9attire; he will be remembered for his vibrant spirit and the
10indelible mark he left on the hearts of many; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mike Nickols is survived by his wife, Lorelei
12(Frost) Nickols; his mother, Iris (Seay) Wesley; his father,
13G. Allen (Maureen) Nickols; his stepfather, Robert (Deborah)
14Wesley; his siblings, Christopher (Amanda) Nickols, Jennifer
15Nickols, Matt Nickols, and Katy (Blake) Montgomery; his
16children, Ian (Sharon) Nickols, Owen Nickols, and Brady
17Nickols; his grandchildren, Sammy and Israel; and many nieces
18and nephews; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Michael G. "Mike" Nickols and extend our sincere condolences
22to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
23it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Mike Nickols as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
