SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Philip Sharp McCully of Toluca, who
4passed away on February 13, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Philip McCully was born to Everett S. and
6Geraldean (Thompson) McCully in Washburn on November 24, 1945;
7he graduated from Washburn High School and attended Illinois
8State University; in the mid-1960s, he opened the Rock House
9Teen Lounge in Washburn, giving teenagers from the surrounding
10communities the opportunity to gather and dance on Friday
11nights; he served in the Illinois Air National Guard; he
12married Sharon Holroyd/Holland on June 4, 1988, and they
13purchased a winter home in Florida in 2004, where they enjoyed
14spending winters and making new friends for 20 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Philip McCully worked for Crescent Electric and
16Englewood Electric before joining the Miller Light Company,
17leading him to start his own lighting agency, Philip S.
18McCully & Associates, in 1972; when he retired in 2012 after 40
19years, he represented over 70 lighting companies and had
20previously worked with architects, engineers, corporations,
21universities, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and
22many others in the central Illinois area; for his professional
23knowledge, he received a number of accolades from the lighting

1industry; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Philip McCully served as vice-chair of the
3Marshall County Republican Central Committee for 10 years
4before serving as chairman for 10 more years; he enjoyed
5helping support many local, state, and federal candidates over
6the years; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Philip McCully was committed to his faith, and he
8served as an elder and trustee at his church; he previously
9served on the board of Tall Oaks Country Club, on the Toluca
10City Council, the previous Toluca Business Association, and
11the Upper Illinois River Valley Development Authority
12(UIRVDA); he had also served as grand marshal of the annual
13Labor Day festivities in Toluca; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Philip McCully loved his family, and he enjoyed
15traveling throughout the United States and many other
16countries with his wife, watching his children and
17grandchildren playing various sports, attending dance
18recitals, golfing with his son and grandson, playing
19pickleball with his granddaughters, laughing with his family,
20and sharing their achievements with others; he was a fan of the
21Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, and the Florida Gulf Coast
22University Eagles; and

1    WHEREAS, Philip McCully was preceded in death by his
2parents; his brother in infancy, James Everett; and his
3brother, Keith McCully; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Philip McCully is survived by his wife, Sharon;
5his children from his previous marriage to Suzanne Dobrich,
6Lori (David) Durst, Stephenie (Tim) Schwanke, Melissa (Rich)
7Grandsart, and Derek (Karen) McCully; Sharon's daughters,
8Stefanie (Mike) Lansing and Michelle (Brad) Gerdes; his
9brother, Gary (Linnie) McCully; his sister, Sally (Larry)
10Arends; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and eight
11great-grandchildren, with one on the way; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Philip Sharp McCully and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Philip McCully as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
