SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Charles A. "Charlie" Cheesman of Rock
4Island, who passed away on March 18, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman was born to Lonnie and Lillie
6(DeMoss) Cheesman on October 1, 1936; he served in the U.S.
7Army during the Korean War; he married Sandy Long on November
821, 1981; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman worked in maintenance for the
10Rock Island/Milan School District, retiring from Earl Hanson
11Elementary School in 2004; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman was heavily involved in
13fastpitch softball and served as a pitcher for the Argus
14Softball team in the early 1960s, playing in the World
15Softball Tournament at Douglas Park in Rock Island; he
16continued his love of softball by helping coach at Rock Island
17High School and Black Hawk College; he also helped with the
18formation of the Rock Island Red Sox baseball team; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman was a member of the Milan VFW
20and the American Legion; he especially enjoyed fishing and was
21a member of the Rock Island Conservation Club; he was a fan of

1the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls and the Iowa Hawkeyes; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman was preceded in death by his
3parents; his grandson, Drake Long; his brothers, Wayne,
4Willis, Frank, Richard, and Jessie Cheesman; and his sister,
5Tessie Albright; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman is survived by his wife, Sandy;
7his children, Ryan (Melissa) Barton, Michael (Jennifer) Long,
8and Steven (Yvonne) Long; his grandsons, Austin, Brant, Jacob,
9and Lucas; and his brother, Virgil Cheesman; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Charles A. "Charlie" Cheesman and extend our sincere
13condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
14him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Charlie Cheesman as an expression
17of our deepest sympathy.
