SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Annette Reid Nolan, who passed away on
4January 23, 2022 at the age of 83; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Annette Reid Nolan was born to Reverend Milton
6Prentiss Reid and Myra W. Phelps in Fort Smith, Arkansas on
7November 23, 1938; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Annette Reid Nolan was smart and athletic; she
9played piano in church and won a statewide singing contest in
10Virginia; she was crowned homecoming queen her senior year of
11high school; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Annette Reid Nolan lived in Richmond, Virginia
13and worked at the Bank of Richmond; she went to nursing school
14at Birmingham Baptist Hospital, met her husband, and
15participated in the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama; she and
16her husband moved to Chicago around 1966; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Annette Reid Nolan found her calling in
18psychiatry, working as a psychiatric nurse at Michael Reese
19Hospital and as a nurse manager on a psychiatric-substance use
20inpatient unit at the Hines VA Medical Center; and

1    WHEREAS, Annette Reid Nolan earned a Bachelor of Arts in
2Art History from St. Xavier University; she loved reading,
3bird-watching, action movies, football, koi ponds, driving
4fast, gardening, cooking Indian and Mexican dinners, the Sugar
5Hill Gang, civic involvement, MSNBC, Stephen Colbert, and
6watching dolphins swim the Atlantic from her porch perch in
7Kitty Hawk, North Carolina; she offered an accepting, loving
8ear for one's personal crisis, struggle, or story; and
 
9    WHEREAS, At the time of her passing, Annette Reid Nolan
10was survived by her children, Kisten Devine Nolan and Verdant
11(Philip Ravia Reid) Nolan; her grandchildren, Nicholas Philip
12Laughton, Kye (Kisten Leslie) Nolan, Thea Day Atkins, and
13Kendall Brinkley Laughton; and many nieces and nephews;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Annette Reid Nolan and extend our sincere condolences to her
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Annette Reid Nolan as an expression
22of our deepest sympathy.
