SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard E. "Dick" Dhabalt of Springfield, who passed away on September 11, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt was born to Jerry and Lois Hansen Dhabalt in Cordova on September 20, 1936; he graduated from Moline High School in 1954; he graduated from Bradley University and the University of Illinois, earning his bachelor's and master's degrees; while at Bradley University, he belonged to the men's basketball team that won the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) in 1957 and was a Hall of Fame team member on the 1956-1957 basketball teams; he married Kathleen "Kathy" Dooley in Peoria on June 28, 1958, and she preceded him in death on April 15, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt taught at Rock Falls High School for one year and Rich Township High School for eight years prior to joining the staff of Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC); as a founding faculty member of LLCC, he served the college for 23 years until his retirement in August 1993; during his tenure, he served as head coach of men's basketball for 20 years, athletic director for 20 years, and an instructor of Physical Education and Mathematics for 25 years; as LLCC's first athletic director, he coached and developed 11 sports; and

WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt was selected to serve as the Region IV assistant director by the National Junior College Athletic Association; he then served as the Region XXIV director; and

WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt was inducted into the Region XXIV Hall of Fame by the National Junior College Athletic Association in 1991 and the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame in 2015; he was honored by LLCC with the inauguration of the male and female Dick Dhabalt Athlete of the Year awards in 2016; and

WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his son, Drew Dhabalt; his brothers, Denny and Larry Dhabalt; and his sister, Connie Anderson; and

WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt is survived by his sons, Richard "Rick" (Sheri) Dhabalt and Daniel "Dan" Dhabalt; his daughters, Deborah "Debbie" McCoy and Victoria "Vicki" Compton; his daughter-in-law, Melanie Dhabalt; his grandchildren, Brittney, Trey (Lexi), Tim, Matt, and Amy Dhabalt, Emily (Brock) Pries, Tricia McCoy, and Sydney Compton; his great-grandsons, Brody and Beckett; his sister-in-law, Sue Dhabalt; and his brother-in-law, Jim Dooley; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard E. "Dick" Dhabalt and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dick Dhabalt as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
