SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Floyd C. Mitton of Moline, who passed away on July 28, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Floyd Mitton was born in Carbon Cliff to Albert and Alice (Carey) Mitton on July 15, 1930; he graduated from United Township High School in 1949 and completed a five-year apprenticeship at John Deere as a metal pattern maker; he married Carol Riceman in 1954 and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 as a pattern maker at Fort Belvoir; and

WHEREAS, Floyd Mitton returned to John Deere upon his honorable discharge; he retired after 32 years, last working at Plow and Planter as a pattern shop supervisor, which was followed by a second career spanning 30 years as a realtor; and

WHEREAS, Floyd Mitton was affectionately called "Uncle" or "Elmer"; he enjoyed being an East Moline-Silvis Rotary member and was honored to be a Paul Harris Fellow; he served many years as a volunteer fire fighter for the Carbon Cliff Fire Department; he was on numerous credit union boards for 50 years and on various councils at Faith Lutheran Church over his 60 years of membership; he enjoyed being with people, talking, playing cards, bowling, and golfing; and

WHEREAS, Floyd Mitton was preceded in death by his son, Doug; his parents; four brothers; and two sisters; and

WHEREAS, Floyd Mitton is survived by his wife, Carol, her siblings and their spouses, and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Floyd C. Mitton and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Floyd Mitton as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
