SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of former Champaign Mayor Gerald "Jerry"
4Schweighart, who passed away on June 30, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jerry Schweighart was born to Wilbur and
6Josephine Sullivan Schweighart in Champaign on May 4, 1938; he
7married Kim in Champaign on June 25, 1960; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jerry Schweighart was a dedicated public servant
9with 32 years of service as a police officer and detective in
10the Champaign Police Department, six years on the Champaign
11City Council, and 12 years as mayor; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jerry Schweighart loved his family and community,
13and he was always the first to crack a joke or lend a helping
14hand; he also loved to grab a coffee with friends at Merry
15Ann's or drop a fishing line any chance he could; he was
16happiest spending time with his grandchildren and
17great-grandchildren; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jerry Schweighart was preceded in death by his
19son, Jeffrey Dennis Schweighart; his brothers, Richard and
20Marion; and his parents; and

1    WHEREAS, Jerry Schweighart is survived by his wife of 62
2years, Kim; his sons, Jerry (Vita) Schweighart and Rory
3(Lesley Ponder) Schweighart; his daughter, Tami (Troy) Rhodes;
4his eight grandchildren, Tyler, Sydney, Lexi, Evan, Neal,
5Elizabeth, Nicole, and Jarrod; his great-grandchildren, Dax
6and Sloane; and his brother, John (Johannah) Schweighart;
7therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10former Champaign Mayor Gerald "Jerry" Schweighart and extend
11our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
12knew and loved him; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Jerry Schweighart as an expression
15of our deepest sympathy.
