1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
5Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by changing
6Section 2705-210 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2705/2705-210)  (was 20 ILCS 2705/49.15)
8    Sec. 2705-210. Traffic control and prevention of
9accidents. The Department has the power to develop,
10consolidate, and coordinate effective programs and activities
11for the advancement of driver education, for the facilitation
12of the movement of motor vehicle traffic, and for the
13protection and conservation of life and property on the
14streets and highways of this State and to advise, recommend,
15and consult with the several departments, divisions, boards,
16commissions, and other agencies of this State in regard to
17those programs and activities. The Department has the power to
18aid and assist the counties, cities, towns, and other
19political subdivisions of this State in the control of traffic
20and the prevention of traffic accidents. That aid and
21assistance to counties, cities, towns, and other political
22subdivisions of this State shall include assistance with
23regard to planning, traffic flow, light synchronizing,

1preferential lanes for carpools, and carpool parking
2allocations.
3    To further the prevention of accidents, the Department
4shall conduct a traffic study following the occurrence of any
5accident involving a pedestrian fatality that occurs at an
6intersection of a State highway. The study shall include, but
7not be limited to, consideration of alternative geometric
8design improvements, traffic control devices, and any other
9improvements that the Department deems necessary. The
10Department shall make the results of the study available to
11the public on its website.
