HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, During a winter storm that hit the State of Illinois on February 2, 2022, Plainfield Fire Protection District Chief Jon Stratton received an emergency call shortly after 7:30 a.m.; and

WHEREAS, The emergency call was for a pregnant woman in labor; the couple was traveling to Edward Hospital and called 911 when they were at the intersection of Fort Beggs Drive and Route 59 in Plainfield; and

WHEREAS, Chief Stratton arrived at the scene and directed the couple to relocate their car to a nearby parking lot prior to emergency personnel arriving to assist with the delivery; and

WHEREAS, Through the assistance of emergency personnel and the Plainfield Fire Protection District, a baby girl was born at 7:41 a.m.; and

WHEREAS, In addition to Chief Stratton, Lieutenant Bryan Gallup, Firefighter/Medic Bill Cascone, and Firefighter/Medic Jim Brereton from Engine 1941 assisted with the delivery; and

WHEREAS, Firefighters/Medics Robert Martins and Steve Tatroe assisted from Ambulance 1914; and

WHEREAS, Firefighters/Medics Brandon Cymerman and Scott Sheldon assisted from Ambulance 1944; and

WHEREAS, The father cut the newborn's umbilical cord before the mother and baby were taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet by ambulance; and

WHEREAS, The first responders acted swiftly, helping to safely bring a new life into the world despite the difficult circumstances the weather presented; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the Plainfield Fire Protection District and the emergency personnel who assisted in delivering a baby girl during a winter storm; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we wish the best for the family of the newborn; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we remember the courage and security our fire departments bring to our communities in times of need; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Plainfield Fire Chief Jon Stratton, Lieutenant Bryan Gallup, and Firefighters/Medics Bill Cascone, Jim Brereton, Robert Martins, Steve Tatroe, Brandon Cymerman, and Scott Sheldon as an expression of our esteem and respect.
