HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Deputy Majority Leader Mary E. Flowers has been a
3healthcare champion in Illinois since her first day in office;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, During her more than three decades in the
6Illinois General Assembly, Leader Flowers has accomplished
7significant change to help disadvantaged Illinoisans obtain
8needed health care; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Because of Leader Flowers' leadership and her
10focus on health equity, she was the first chairwoman of the
11House Health Care Availability and Access Committee in 1997;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, HB 1779, sponsored by Leaders Flowers, passed
14unanimously out of the House Insurance committee and out of
15the House chamber; and
 
16    WHEREAS, With Leader Flowers' strong resolve, Illinois
17became the first state to pass comprehensive biomarker
18testing, which will help Illinoisans receive access to the
19right treatment at the right time; and
 
20    WHEREAS, On September 28, 2021, The American Cancer

1Society Cancer Action Network honored Leader Flowers with
2their most prestigious award, the National Distinguished
3Advocacy Award, in recognition of her significant
4contributions to the fight against cancer and her leadership
5on the successful passage of first-in-the nation legislation
6for comprehensive biomarker testing; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we congratulate Deputy Majority Leader Mary E. Flowers on her
10national award from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action
11Network for her contributions in the fight against cancer; and
12be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Leader Flowers as a symbol of our esteem and
15respect.
