HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who have given
4their lives in service to their communities; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police has proudly served the
6citizens of Illinois since 1922, and its dedication to public
7safety has saved countless lives and has enriched the State of
8Illinois; and
 
9    WHEREAS, It is important to remember those officers who
10lost their lives while upholding their oath to serve and
11protect; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Trooper Albert Hasson was the first Illinois
13State Police officer to be killed in the line of duty; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Trooper Hasson was struck by a car while
15patrolling approximately three miles north of Chenoa on
16September 7, 1924; he pulled off the road to stop an oncoming
17car and was struck by a car from behind just as he stepped onto
18the roadway, throwing him 10 feet; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Trooper Hasson was taken by fellow officers to
20the hospital in Pontiac, where he succumbed to his injuries

1several hours later; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Trooper Hasson was a four-month veteran of the
3Illinois State Police, assigned to District 6 in Pontiac; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Trooper Hasson was a veteran of World War I, and
5at the time of his passing, he was survived by his wife; and
 
6    WHEREAS, To honor Trooper Hasson, a training room in the
7District 6 Headquarters was named after him in 2004;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
11SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate U.S. Route 24 in
12the City of Chenoa as the "Trooper Albert Hasson Memorial
13Highway"; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
15is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
16State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
17giving notice of the name of the "Trooper Albert Hasson
18Memorial Highway"; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
20presented to the Illinois State Police, the Mayor of the City
