SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary Agnes "Midge" Langfelder of
4Springfield, who passed away on December 30, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Langfelder was born in Springfield to Ritter
6and Nellie (Manning) Dunham on January 19, 1931; in 1948, she
7attended St. Francis College in Lafayette, Indiana and then the
8School of the Art Institute of Chicago for one year; she
9married Oswald "Ossie" Langfelder at St. Joseph Church in
10Springfield on June 14, 1952; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mary Langfelder and her husband raised 13
12children; 40 years later, she returned to college and earned
13her associate's degree in art from Lincoln Land Community
14College in 1993; she was a member of the first graduating class
15from the University of Illinois Springfield in 1998, earning a
16bachelor's degree in visual arts; she became the first
17recipient of the UIS Lifelong Learner Award and went on to
18teach art at St. Agnes Elementary School from 2001 until 2009;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Mary Langfelder lived a life of service; she was a
21dedicated member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, a board
22member of the YWCA, a founding board member of the Mini

1O'Beirne Crisis Nursery, and a member of the Prairie Art
2Alliance; she was a strong supporter of Ursuline Academy, the
3Griffin band, and various other organizations; she enjoyed art,
4traveling, playing bridge, being outdoors, carrying on the
5Dunham family tradition of hosting chili dinners on Saturdays,
6attending Springfield events, Broadway shows, and baseball;
7she was a humble and caring person; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Mary Langfelder was preceded in death by her
9husband, Ossie; her parents; her sisters, Rita Blasko and Jean
10Delaney; her brothers, Johnny, James, and Pete Dunham; and her
11son-in-law, Steve Baker; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mary Langfelder is survived by her children, Joan
13Baker, Jamie (Jim) Cour, John (Nancy Bahre), Joseph (Gale),
14Judy (Dennis) Shackelford, Jim (Billie), Jackie (Al) Yoho, Jay
15Paul (Amy), Janice Davis, Jeannie (Larry) Rockford, Joshua
16(Angie), Jacob (John Carrara), and Julia (Dustin) Frevert; 31
17grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, with 2 on the way; her
18sisters, Margaret Lemanski and Judy Ansell; her sister-in-law,
19Edith Raven; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins;
20therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23Mary Agnes "Midge" Langfelder and extend our sincere

1condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
2her; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Mary Langfelder as an expression of
5our deepest sympathy.
