SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mark E. Leipold, who passed away on
4October 12, 2019 at the age of 59; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mark Leipold was born on April 20, 1960 to Emil
6and Patricia Leipold and was raised in Belleville; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mark Leipold was a graduate of Northwestern
8University, Class of 1982; he then studied at the DePaul
9University College of Law and graduated in 1986; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mark Leipold worked at the Chicago law firm of
11Gould & Ratner LLP, where he was a longtime partner and chair
12of the corporate practice; he was committed to his clients and
13their welfare; he sought to assist all with kindness and
14respect, while maintaining the highest standards in the legal
15profession; those who worked with him saw his generous spirit,
16as well as his dedication to his work; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mark Leipold held leadership positions in many
18legal and business associations, including the Business
19Bankruptcy Committee of the American Bar Association's
20Business Section and the Turnaround Management Association's
21Chicago/Midwest Chapter; along with his colleagues, he was

1actively involved in Law Exchange International's global
2network of firms; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mark Leipold was an adjunct lecturer at the DePaul
4University College of Law and at the John Marshall Law School;
5he was able to share his deep knowledge of the law while also
6being a mentor and an inspiration to the young students; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mark Leipold had varied interests from the time he
8was young, including cooking, travel, and music, especially
9from the 1980s; he had a passionate love of science fiction in
10all mediums; he was a devoted fan of Northwestern Wildcat
11Football and loved tailgating at home games and, in recent
12years, traveling to bowl games; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mark Leipold was known for having a warm and kind
14spirit; he influenced the lives of all he met and had the kind
15of charisma that lit up a room when he entered; his
16intelligence, wit, and charm were rivaled by his goodwill and
17generosity; he had the ability to make you feel like you
18mattered, whether through reaching out with a caring gesture or
19a humorous quip; he strived to make people feel recognized and
20important; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Mark Leipold fiercely loved his family, including
22his pets; he leaves behind many great friends and a legacy of

1joy; he will be remembered as a good and loving family man,
2friend, and colleague; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mark Leipold was preceded in death by his parents,
4Emil and Patricia Leipold; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mark Leipold is survived by his wife, Susan Minor;
6his children, Anne, Peter, and Jane Leipold; his sisters,
7Tricia Bartley (David), Lauren Leipold, and Janet Formanek
8(Robert); his nieces, Kara, Alyson, Sarah, Katie, Chelsea,
9Kelly, and Jackie; his nephews, John, Nick, and Jack; as well
10as many great-nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Mark E. Leipold and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Mark Leipold as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
