SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Duane L. Swenson of Rock Island, who
4passed away on September 19, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Duane Swenson was born in Moline to Carl E. and
6Jennie (Boom) Swenson on January 31, 1930; when he was eight
7years old, his mother passed away; when he was 14 years old,
8his father married Edna Wegge; he graduated from Moline High
9School in January of 1948; after high school, he studied at
10Black Hawk College; during the Korean Conflict, he enlisted in
11the United States Navy and served from 1951 until 1954; he then
12returned to college and earned his bachelor's degree in
13marketing from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; he
14married Margaret "Peg" Parsons at the First Congregational
15Church in Moline on June 25, 1955; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Duane Swenson began his career in production
17control at KVP, a paper company in Michigan; he and his family
18returned to the Quad-Cities, where he worked at Deere and
19Company as an accountant and retired after 25 years of service;
20he then worked at H & R Block during tax season for ten years;
21he took great joy in his work as Santa's Helper at Duck Creek
22Mall during the holiday season; and

1    WHEREAS, Duane Swenson attended Trinity Lutheran Church
2and then First Lutheran Church with his wife; he was a
3dedicated member of the Moline Rotary for 40 years; he and Peg
4led tours of the Western United States for Rotary Youth
5Exchange students for 15 years; his proudest accomplishment was
6receiving the Rotarian of the Year Award; he was a member of
7the National Association of Accountants and served as
8secretary, treasurer, and president; he was a member and
9officer of the Moline After Dinner Club; he sang in several
10church and civic choirs throughout his life and was in the
11chorus of the first production season of the Moline Music
12Guild; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Duane Swenson was preceded in death by his
14parents; his brother, Robert Swenson; his son-in-law, James
15Warren; and his great-grandson, James Swenson; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Duane Swenson is survived by his wife of over 64
17years, Margaret "Peg" Swenson; his children, Jennifer Swenson
18Warren, Andrew (Susan) Swenson, and Thomas Swenson; his sister,
19Helen Jean Frazier; eight grandchildren; ten
20great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members
21and friends; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
23ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Duane L. Swenson and extend our sincere condolences to his
2family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Duane Swenson as an expression of
6our deepest sympathy.
