SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Officer Brett P. Lauten of Naperville, who passed away on September 12, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Officer Lauten attended school in Lisle; he served in the United States Marine Corps for six years; and

WHEREAS, Officer Lauten joined the Lisle Police Department on January 13, 1999; he retired on July 2, 2019 after 20 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Officer Lauten received many awards, including a Department Commendation, two Life-Saving Awards, numerous Unit Citations for outstanding work, as well as the Officer of the Year Award; he was the president of the Lisle Police Department Pension Board; and

WHEREAS, Officer Lauten dedicated his life to serving his country and his community and took great pride in his profession; he was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend; he will be remembered for his humor, discipline, and willingness to help others; and

WHEREAS, Officer Lauten was preceded in death by his father, Philip D. Lauten; his grandfather, Thomas J. Krebes; and his father-in-law, Richard Maciejewski; and

WHEREAS, Officer Lauten is survived by his wife, Theresa (Maciejewski); his children, Madison and Maximilian Lauten; his mother, Judy (Krebes) Lauten; his grandmother, Rita R. Krebes; his sister, Kim (John) Ruskusky; his nieces and nephews, Amanda, Nicole, Sean, Lula, Joely, Vaughn, Leona, Quinn, Beaux, and Dashel; and his siblings-in-law, Rick (Jorie) Maciejewski, Lori Palella, Debbie (Al) Marin/Matus, and Kim Richter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Officer Brett P. Lauten and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Brett Lauten as an expression of our esteem and respect.
